Permanent Supportive Housing (Phase 3 Program)
In 2006, we added to our “continuum of care services” when Phase 3 was initiated. This program component offers 2 apartments in North Plainfield with section based rental assistance that stays with the units. Prior clients of our emergency shelter can move into these apartments, receive Section 8 rental assistance and continue with professional case management, counseling and support. This permits us to move families to permanent housing without the long wait for Section 7 rental assistance vouchers. In, turn this makes it possible to accept more homeless families into our Emergency Shelter Program.
Goals of this program are for clients to maintain self-sufficiency in permanent housing and increase employability to “disqualify” themselves from Section 8 rental assistance. Clients must participate in case management for the term of their residency in order to reside in the supported apartments.
In 2013, 2 single mothers and 3 children were provided with 200 hours of case management and support through financial counseling, mental health services, basic needs and emergency transportation.
