Spring Progress Report

IHNSC Spring Progress ReportWith a strong focus on empowerment, case managers have been working hard with families on long-term independence goals. Three single mothers are attending Raritan Valley Community College, while also maintaining their employment. Two single mothers and one single woman are now working full-time employment in their areas of expertise; One single woman moved into independent housing from our emergency shelter.

One child is enrolled in our Daycare Plus preschool program thanks to the generosity of congregational donations. Case managers worked with one family to obtain essential paperwork such as birth certificates, social security cards and medical insurance that had been lost due to chronic homelessness. After struggling with truancy, one school–aged child now has regular transportation to school through the McKinney Vento Act and our case manager’s perseverance. One single mother and one single man completed our Rapid Rehousing rental assistance program, which equipped them with financial knowledge for independence.

Special thanks to The Wawa Foundation for their generous grant in support of food security and basic needs. Check out our Amazon Wish List aimed at ensuring that basic needs are available to families in all of our programs. Our Mother’s Day fundraising campaign has been a thoughtful way of honoring an important mother in one’s life while benefiting programming for the mothers of IHNSC.

One social work intern completed over 450 hours of field work towards her Bachelors of Social Work degree through Rutgers University, while one Hillsborough High School Senior REACH intern completed one semester of field projects. A high school volunteer training initiative has been established to encourage volunteerism and homelessness education amongst the youth in our community.

With 90% of our families maintaining independence over 5 years, IHNSC continues to work hard with the Somerset County families who need us. Stay tuned to ihnsc.org and our Facebook page for up-to-date fundraising and current events information!

Enjoy the sun, and thank you for your support!
